Do you need private cover?

If you are not sure you want private health insurance, the decision tree below may help you decide. "Members of your family" means you, your spouse and any dependent children you would include in your private cover. taxable incomes, including fringe benefits and family trust payments, totalling $146,000 a year or more?

YES   You and your spouse are liable for an extra 1% Medicare Levy Surcharge on your tax so,  by having suitable private hospital cover you can save at least $1,460 a year in tax.

Are you over 30 years of age and born after 1 July 1934?

YES  Each year you delay starting private hospital cover, your premium rate increases by 2% up to a maximum loading of 70%.
